Baltimore Canoe and Kayak Club Board Meeting
Meeting commenced at 7:00pm on 2-8-21

Attendees:

Ed Blizzard, Jean Blizzard, Lew Glaeser, John Kemper, Chris Moize, Bill Offutt, Nick Shockney, Andrew Rabinowitz, Ryan Whiteleather, Cait Whiteleather, Beth Ryan, Kelly Buckingham and George Currie

Committee Reports

Secretary’s Report: The meeting minutes from the 12/14/20 board meeting were read/reviewed. A motion was made by BillO to approve the minutes and was 2nd by BethR and was accepted unanimously.

Treasurer’s Report was read/reviewed - a motion was made by BillO to accept the report and was seconded by EdB. It was approved with a unanimous vote.

It was discussed, and agreed by all, to keep the current year and two previous years on the Treasurer’s report that Beth provides.

Safety Report – AndrewR – we will not be holding any safety classes this year. We will re-evaluate when the COVID restrictions have been lifted.

Membership – JohnK say we currently have 27 recorded new members since Oct 2020.

New Business

Membership – we all agreed that Ryan could post a list of current members each month on the BCKC website. Also, Ryan will post a statement on the “New Member Sign Up” on the website that “when you join the BCKC, your name will be listed along with all current members on the BCKC website. Ryan agreed he will take care of this.

JohnK will get old members list and set it up to do an email blast to gain some additional membership. Jean and John will work on the project together. Ed will write a template email and share with the group to get agreement. Then John or Jean will send it to the board asking each board member to email their list of several members out so that we might increase our membership.

Ideas to Increase Membership

We discussed doing a Zoom meeting to teach novice members all about outfitting and how to dress for winter kayaking. AndrewR and Ryan will work together to develop class material and coordinate when and how to do such classes over Zoom. They will connect with Jean for a Zoom link.

Patapsco State Park & Team River Runners

Want two events - May 8th & Oct 9th 10a – 2:30p, volunteers will arrive at 9am – rain date will be the following weekend. (TRR wants 6-8 of us to come help for the day) They will bring folks from Walter Reed and Kennedy Krieger. Nick Bowley purchased subs, salads and drinks for everyone with club dollars. NickS will volunteer to coordinate. BCKC donated food last year. NickS would like to do it again this year. AndrewR made a motion that we allot NickS up to $300 per event for Patapsco and TRR events. BillO 2nd the motion, it was voted in unanimously.

WV Weekend

Postponed till 2022 or until COVID restrictions are released.

Yough Weekend – July 16-18, 2021

Ed proposes we set up a date and advertise on FB for a weekend sometime in July hoping COVID situation will be better. All agreed. EdB made a motion to allow up to $450 to GeorgeC for setting up camp sites, etc. BethR 2nd the motion. The vote was unanimous. Cait will post the advertisement.

Stoney Creek Rendezvous May 21-23, 2021 (could be cancelled due to COVID)

EdB made a motion to continue to support Stoney Creek release for a 2 day release up to $650. George C 2nd the motion. A unanimous vote was achieved. AndrewR will make the contact for the donation about who/where to send the check.

Gunpowder Access Update

BillO and GeorgeC are going to talk to Eric Ruhl about getting a POC for the Gunpowder River to see if we as a club can volunteer to do some clean up or find out what the Gun Powder authorities might want done that we can volunteer to do as a club to be of assistance.

Club Trips vs Pick Up Trips

Discussion about where to require club membership. Only on advertised club trips like Yough, Beginners, etc.

Motion to adjourn at 8:20pm made by EdB and 2nd by BethR.
